Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin has declared himself fully ready to make an immediate impact at Girona after being officially unveiled as the Spanish club’s latest signing.
The 28-year-old centre-back has joined Girona with the clear objective of helping the club secure an immediate return to La Liga following their relegation to the Segunda División.
Mumin arrives with valuable experience in the Spanish top flight, having previously played for Rayo Vallecano. The Ghana international says he is in excellent physical and mental condition after recently featuring for the national team.
“I feel very good. I returned before the last week and have played a couple of matches. I was with the Ghana team at the World Cup. Physically and mentally, I am ready to play,” Mumin said during his presentation.
The defender revealed that Girona’s reputation and ambitious project were key factors behind his decision to join the club, despite having other options.
“I think it is the right club for me. It has a great reputation in Europe and is a big club. I think it’s a good project for me and for any footballer. That’s why I chose Girona,” he explained.
Mumin has also enjoyed a positive start to life at his new club, praising his teammates and the coaching staff for helping him settle quickly.
“The first days have been very good. They speak Catalan, which is a bit different from Spanish, and they speak very fast, but the players are very good people, and the staff is also very good,” he said.
“They have supported me very well, and I already feel like I’ve been here for a couple of months.”
The Ghanaian international added that the warm reception from the dressing room has made his transition to Girona considerably easier.
“I feel very supported. The first days have been very easy because they have been very kind to me, both in the locker room and outside, and they have tried to help me adapt perfectly,” he added.
With his confidence high and preparations underway, Mumin will now aim to turn his positive start off the pitch into strong performances as Girona begin their campaign with the ambition of securing promotion back to Spain’s top flight.
