Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin is on the verge of completing a move to Spanish La Liga side Girona after arriving in the city and successfully undergoing his medical with the club.
The 28-year-old centre-back is expected to sign his contract in the coming hours, with the transfer now awaiting official confirmation, barring any last-minute complications.
Mumin will join Girona as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Rayo Vallecano, where he spent three seasons after joining from Portuguese side Vitória Guimarães in 2022 in a deal reportedly worth around €1.5 million.
Mumin Seeks Fresh Start
The move to Girona offers Mumin an opportunity to revive his career after his progress was disrupted by a serious knee injury.
The Ghana international suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in March 2025, forcing him to spend almost a year on the sidelines.
He eventually returned to action for Rayo Vallecano last season but made only three appearances, featuring for a total of 78 minutes, including one start.
Despite his limited involvement, his return to competitive football was enough to put him back in contention for the Ghana national team.
World Cup Experience
Mumin was part of Ghana’s squad at the most recent FIFA World Cup but did not make an appearance during the tournament.
He will now begin a new chapter with Girona, who are looking to strengthen their central defensive options with a player who brings experience, physical strength and versatility to the backline.
For Mumin, the move represents another opportunity to establish himself at the highest level of Spanish football after an injury setback interrupted his development.
