Ghanaian international Alidu Seidu is closing in on a move to French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice from Rennes on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy.
The transfer is expected to be completed within the next 24 hours, with the 26-year-old defender reportedly scheduled to undergo his medical later this week on the Côte d’Azur.
Seidu is eligible to move outside the regular transfer window under France’s special “joker” rule, which allows Ligue 1 clubs to sign one player registered with another domestic club after the closure of the standard transfer market.
Nice turned to the Ghanaian after suffering a major setback with the serious ACL injury sustained by full-back Antoine Mendy earlier this month.
The club’s owners, INEOS, have reportedly given the final financial approval for the deal following positive discussions over the distribution of Seidu’s wages.
Negotiations between the two Ligue 1 clubs have progressed rapidly over the past 48 hours, with Nice keen to secure the services of the versatile defender, who is capable of operating in several positions across the backline.
Seidu joined Rennes from Clermont Foot in early 2024 but has experienced fluctuations in playing time, making a move to Nice an attractive opportunity for the Ghanaian to seek regular football.
If the remaining paperwork and medical examinations are completed without any complications, Nice are expected to register Seidu immediately.
The club is also hoping to make the defender available for their upcoming Ligue 1 fixture against Lille this weekend.
