Ghana defender Alidu Seidu has withdrawn from the Black Stars squad after being handed a late invitation by head coach Carlos Queiroz, with fitness concerns preventing him from joining the team for the upcoming international assignments.
The 26-year-old was not included in Queiroz’s original squad for Ghana’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.
However, following a number of changes to the squad, Seidu received a late call-up but has opted against joining the Black Stars as he continues to manage his fitness.
Seidu recently completed a late loan move to French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice, who secured his services after several players suffered long-term injuries.
The Ghana international made his debut for Nice last Sunday in their 2-1 victory over Lille, coming off the bench to play 32 minutes.
With his fitness still being carefully managed following his move to France, Seidu has decided to remain with his club rather than report for international duty.
Ghana will travel to Bouaké to face Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday, September 24, before hosting The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium three days later.
Seidu’s withdrawal represents another change for Queiroz as the Black Stars continue preparations for their opening AFCON qualifying fixtures amid a number of squad uncertainties.
