Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has joined the Black Stars backroom staff in a new role as Clubs and Player Relations Manager, according to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications.
The appointment will see Ghana’s all-time leading goalscorer work to strengthen the relationship between the national team, its players and their respective clubs.
Gyan’s responsibilities will include supporting player welfare and improving communication and engagement across the Black Stars set-up.
The former captain will serve as a link between the technical team, the playing squad and the clubs of selected players, helping to facilitate communication on international call-ups, welfare matters and other issues affecting the players.
Gyan will also provide mentorship and support to the squad, drawing on his vast experience with the national team and his relationship with a number of players in the current generation.
The 40-year-old is Ghana’s all-time leading goalscorer, having scored 51 goals for the Black Stars. He captained Ghana at several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and three FIFA World Cups.
His extensive international experience and leadership background will form an important part of his responsibilities as he begins his new role with the national team.
The appointment was announced by the Ghana Football Association Communications department.
