Ghana’s Black Maidens will turn their attention to Togo as they look to bounce back from their 4-2 defeat to Nigeria at the 2026 WAFU-B U17 Girls’ Cup.
The defending champions suffered their first defeat of the competition on Friday after a difficult encounter against the Flamingos at the Lycée Scientifique in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.
Nigeria took control of the contest through goals from Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, Precious Oscar and Harmony Chidi before Ghana mounted a strong response in the second half.
Captain Seidatu Wahab reduced the deficit in the 62nd minute with a spectacular free-kick, giving the Black Maidens renewed hope of completing a comeback.
Gloria A. Ameaa then added a second goal for Ghana as the Black Maidens continued to push for an equaliser.
However, Harmony Chidi struck again in the 90th minute to seal Nigeria’s 4-2 victory, despite the Flamingos having been reduced to 10 players.
The result means Ghana must quickly regroup ahead of their next Group B fixture against Togo on Monday, September 21.
The Black Maidens will face the Togolese at the Lycée Scientifique, with kick-off scheduled for 6:00pm.
Ghana made an impressive start to the tournament, recording a 4-0 victory over Burkina Faso in their opening game.
That result provided the defending champions with an ideal beginning to their campaign, but the defeat to Nigeria has increased the importance of their remaining group matches.
The encounter against Togo will therefore present Ghana with an opportunity to return to winning ways and regain momentum before their subsequent fixtures against Niger and Côte d’Ivoire.
