Blackburn Rovers are continuing their search for a free agent to strengthen Tony Mowbray’s squad, with Ghana captain Jordan Ayew still attracting interest from the Championship club.
Rovers have held further talks with an unnamed free agent who visited the club’s training ground on Monday as the club assesses potential options to strengthen the squad.
However, Mowbray has confirmed that the player currently in discussions with Blackburn is not Ayew, despite recent reports linking the Ghana international with a move to Ewood Park.
“They're in the building. We are trying to progress things,” Mowbray said.
The Blackburn boss stressed that the club will not rush into signing a player simply for the sake of adding another name to the squad, insisting that any new arrival must address a specific need within the team.
“You can't just sign footballers for the sake of it. They have to fit your group and fit your squad,” he added.
Mowbray also explained that Blackburn are looking for players who can bring qualities that are currently missing from the squad rather than pursuing high-profile names simply because of their reputation.
“We are still on the process of looking. We are having conversations, thinking whether it will help or not.”
Ayew remains a potential target for Blackburn following his departure from Leicester City, with the experienced Ghana forward currently available as a free agent.
However, Mowbray’s comments make it clear that Ayew is not the player currently in talks with the club.
Meanwhile, Mowbray confirmed that new signing Gady Beyuku is expected to be included on the bench for Tuesday’s fixture as he continues to build up his match fitness.
With the search for reinforcements ongoing, Blackburn will continue to assess their options carefully as Mowbray looks to add the right profile of player to his squad.
