Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has retained Kwasi Sibo in the Black Stars squad for the opening matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, despite the midfielder yet to make his competitive debut for new club Al-Swehly.
The 27-year-old completed a move to the Libyan side from Spanish outfit Real Oviedo during the summer, with widespread reports surrounding a lucrative two-year contract reportedly worth $10 million.
Despite his lack of playing time at club level, Queiroz has maintained his confidence in Sibo, naming him among the 24 players selected for Ghana’s crucial Group C qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.
The Black Stars will begin their AFCON qualifying campaign with a difficult away fixture against Côte d’Ivoire at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké on September 24.
Ghana will then return home to face The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 27, with Queiroz hoping to make a strong start to the qualifying campaign.
The Black Stars will round off the international window with a high-profile friendly against Morocco at the Grand Stade de Tanger on October 4.
Although Sibo is still waiting to make his first appearance for Al-Swehly, he remains an important option in Ghana’s midfield following his performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The midfielder featured in all four of Ghana’s matches at the tournament, accumulating 249 minutes on the pitch.
Sibo started Ghana’s goalless draw against England and also featured in the Black Stars’ matches against Panama, Croatia and Colombia.
Ghana advanced to the knockout stage of the tournament before their campaign ended with a defeat to Colombia.
His inclusion in Queiroz’s latest squad underlines the coach’s continued trust in the midfielder as Ghana begins preparations for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
