Black Princesses head coach Charles Sampson has urged his players to be more clinical in front of goal after Ghana suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Ecuador at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Ghana endured a difficult start to their campaign, conceding twice before half-time before Ecuador added a third goal after the break to secure a convincing victory.
While disappointed with the result, Sampson believes the Black Princesses had opportunities to change the course of the match but failed to make the most of their chances in the final third.
The Ghana coach felt greater composure and efficiency in front of goal could have given his side a route back into the contest.
“We were unfortunate and not clinical enough in the last third. We should have been able to score some goals and come into the game,” Sampson said.
The defeat leaves Ghana with little room for error in their remaining Group C fixtures as they look to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.
The Black Princesses will return to action against South Korea on Wednesday, September 9, before facing France in their final group game.
Sampson will now look for a response from his players, particularly in the attacking third, as Ghana aim to turn their chances into goals and revive their campaign at the tournament.
