The FIFA Commercial Strategy team, in partnership with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), hosted a one-day Women’s Premier League Commercial Strategy Workshop on Thursday, 3rd September 2026, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
The workshop, which commenced at 8:00 a.m., brought together key stakeholders in Ghanaian football to discuss ways of strengthening the commercial value, visibility, sustainability and overall development of the women’s game.
Speaking at the workshop, Doreen Nabwire, a FIFA Women’s Football Expert, expressed her excitement and admiration for the commitment shown towards women’s football in Ghana.
“I’m truly humbled and inspired by the powerful ladies in the room. The enthusiasm you have for women’s football is amazing. I also appreciate the gentlemen in the room for their support.”
Nabwire also praised Ghana for its achievements and continued efforts to develop football at various levels, particularly in women’s and youth football.
She highlighted Ghana’s presence on the international stage, with the country’s U-20 and U-17 women’s teams competing at FIFA World Cup tournaments, describing such progress as an indication of the country’s commitment to developing the next generation.
According to Nabwire, Ghana’s selection for the FIFA programme further demonstrates the country’s determination to establish a clear development pathway for women’s football, from the grassroots level through to the highest level of the game.
She noted that such initiatives are vital in creating opportunities for young girls across Ghana to discover their potential, develop their talents and pursue football as a career.
The workshop also provided an important platform for stakeholders to explore commercial opportunities, strategic partnerships and sustainable models capable of elevating the Ghana Women’s Premier League.
With stronger collaboration between FIFA, the GFA, clubs and other stakeholders, the initiative is expected to contribute to a more commercially attractive and sustainable future for women’s football in Ghana.
