The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has committed GH¢1.5 million towards the development of young referees through its Catch Them Young Refereeing Programme.
The initiative forms part of the GFA’s broader strategy to strengthen Colts football and grassroots development, with a focus on identifying, training and nurturing refereeing talents from an early age.
Under the programme, the GFA will invest GH¢300,000 annually to provide educational support and allowances for young referees participating in the initiative.
The Association will also commit an additional GH¢270,000 each year towards uniforms and logistics to support the effective implementation of the programme.
The GFA says the Catch Them Young initiative is designed to create a sustainable pipeline of refereeing talent while providing young people with opportunities to develop valuable skills both on and off the field.
The programme also forms part of the Association’s efforts to ensure that grassroots football development extends beyond player development to include the production of the next generation of football officials.
Through the initiative, the GFA aims to identify promising young referees early and provide them with the necessary support and exposure to progress within Ghana’s football refereeing structure.
