The Ghana Football Association (GFA) currently has 155 young footballers enrolled in its three Elite Academies as part of its ongoing efforts to identify, nurture and develop promising talents across the country.
GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku disclosed the figures during the launch of the 2026/27 Colts Football Season at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
The 155 players comprise 117 boys and 38 girls, with the academies providing a structured environment where young footballers can combine football development with education and personal growth.
The Bolgatanga Academy has the largest number of players, with 101 students, made up of 64 boys and 37 girls.
Prempeh College has 33 boys, while Achimota School has 21 players, comprising 20 boys and one girl.
Speaking at the launch, Okraku stressed the importance of expanding talent identification beyond Ghana’s traditional football centres.
“We want to find talent where the talent lives,” he said.
According to the GFA President, the Elite Academies form part of a broader player-development pathway designed to identify talented youngsters at an early stage and provide them with the appropriate environment and resources to reach their potential.
The initiative is also intended to create a clear bridge between grassroots football, elite development, professional football and the national teams.
Through its academy and grassroots programmes, the GFA continues to focus on developing the next generation of Ghanaian footballers while ensuring that talent from different parts of the country has an opportunity to be identified and nurtured.
