The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has introduced a new competition to the Colts football calendar for the 2026/27 season, aimed at providing young talents with more opportunities to develop through competitive football.
The KIVO/JLAB U-17 Colts Inter-Club Championship was unveiled by GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku during the official launch of the new Colts football season.
The new competition will bring together U-17 Colts clubs and provide young footballers with an additional platform to compete, gain valuable match experience and further develop their skills within the grassroots football system.
According to President Okraku, the introduction of the championship forms part of the GFA’s broader efforts to strengthen grassroots football and create more opportunities for emerging talents across the country.
The competition is expected to complement existing Colts programmes by increasing the number of competitive matches available to young players as they progress through the football development pathway.
It will also provide the GFA and other stakeholders with another avenue to monitor and identify promising talents at an early stage, potentially helping to bridge the gap between grassroots football and elite youth development.
The introduction of the KIVO/JLAB U-17 Colts Inter-Club Championship therefore represents another step in the GFA’s efforts to strengthen the foundation of Ghanaian football and create a more structured pathway for the development of future stars.
