The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has revealed that 859 Colts clubs are currently active across the country’s ten football regions, highlighting the extensive reach of grassroots football in Ghana.
GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku announced the figures during the launch of the 2026/27 Colts Football Season at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Tuesday.
The Ashanti Region leads the country with 245 active Colts clubs, followed by Greater Accra with 216.
The Brong Ahafo and Northern Regions each have 98 clubs, while the Central Region has 90 and the Western Region has 50.
The regional breakdown is as follows:
Ashanti – 245 clubs
Greater Accra – 216 clubs
Brong Ahafo – 98 clubs
Northern – 98 clubs
Central – 90 clubs
Western – 50 clubs
Eastern – 26 clubs
Upper East – 15 clubs
Upper West – 11 clubs
Volta – 10 clubs
Speaking at the launch, Okraku stressed that Colts football has developed into a nationwide system that goes beyond Ghana’s major football centres.
“These figures tell us something important. Colts football is not Accra football. Colts football is not Kumasi football. Colts football is Ghana football,” he said.
The GFA President added that the Colts system belongs to every region, district and community, with the aim of creating opportunities for young footballers regardless of where they live.
The GFA revived and restructured the Colts football system in 2020 as part of efforts to strengthen the grassroots pathway and create a stronger link between youth football, elite development, professional football and the national teams.
The 2026/27 season marks the sixth consecutive season since the Colts system was reintroduced, with the GFA continuing its efforts to expand and strengthen grassroots football across the country.
