Ghana’s Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Magnus Kofi Amoatey, has paid a solidarity visit to Medeama SC ahead of their crucial CAF Champions League return-leg clash against TP Mazembe.
Ambassador Amoatey met the Medeama delegation in Lubumbashi on Friday, offering words of encouragement and support to the Ghanaian champions ahead of Saturday’s decisive preliminary-round encounter.
The meeting brought together the club’s leadership, technical team and players, with the ambassador expressing Ghana’s support for Medeama as they continue their continental campaign.
The visit comes at a crucial stage for the Yellow and Mauve, who must overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg to keep their Champions League hopes alive.
TP Mazembe secured a late victory at the T&A Stadium last weekend, leaving Ibrahim Tanko’s side with a difficult task against the five-time African champions on their home ground.
Medeama need to score at least once in Lubumbashi to have a chance of progressing, while a two-goal victory would guarantee their passage to the next round.
Despite the first-leg setback, Medeama can take confidence from the strong spells they produced in Tarkwa, although their inability to convert their chances ultimately proved costly.
The Ghanaian champions will now have to produce a disciplined and clinical performance in Lubumbashi if they are to overturn the deficit and advance in the competition.
Medeama will face TP Mazembe at Stade TP Mazembe on Saturday, September 12, with kick-off scheduled for 1:00 pm Ghana time.
