Ghana’s three representatives in the UEFA Champions League are set to begin their respective campaigns as the revamped league phase of Europe’s premier club competition gets underway on Tuesday.
Antoine Semenyo, Rahim Ibrahim and Kojo Peprah Oppong are the three Ghanaian players included in their clubs’ squads for the 2026/27 Champions League campaign, with each hoping to make his mark on the biggest stage in European club football.
Semenyo leads Ghana’s contingent with Manchester City, who travel to Portugal to face FC Porto in their opening league-phase fixture.
The forward returns to the Champions League after making his debut in the competition with City last season. The 26-year-old has also made a positive start to the new Premier League campaign, featuring in all three matches and providing two assists.
He was influential again at the weekend when he set up Erling Haaland for the only goal in City’s 1-0 victory over Coventry City.
Semenyo will now turn his attention to Europe as Manchester City begin their latest Champions League journey.
In Slovakia, Rahim Ibrahim is preparing for another taste of Champions League football with reigning Slovakian champions Slovan Bratislava.
The midfielder has already featured in all six of the club’s Champions League matches this season and is expected to be involved when Slovan Bratislava face French giants Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
Ibrahim will be hoping to continue his European adventure and play a key role as Slovan Bratislava take on one of the continent’s heavyweight clubs.
Meanwhile, Kojo Peprah Oppong could make his Champions League debut when Fenerbahçe host AS Roma on Thursday.
The 22-year-old joined the Turkish giants from Nice during the summer and is now in contention for his first appearance in Europe’s elite club competition.
Oppong faces strong competition for a place in Fenerbahçe’s defence, with the likes of Nathan Aké and Milan Škriniar also competing for selection.
With three Ghanaian players involved at different stages of their European careers, attention will now turn to how Semenyo, Ibrahim and Oppong perform as the new Champions League league phase gets underway.
The trio will be hoping to represent Ghana strongly and make a lasting impression throughout the 2026/27 campaign.
