Greifswalder FC have completed the signing of 18-year-old striker Gibson Adu from Bayern Munich II on a two-year contract, with an option to extend the deal for an additional season.
Born in Mainz, Germany, Adu began his football development at SC Lerchenberg before progressing through the youth systems of Mainz 05 and SpVgg Unterhaching.
He made history at Unterhaching by becoming one of the youngest players to feature in the 3. Liga, making his debut just three days after his 16th birthday. Adu later became the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer at 16 years, one month and 30 days, scoring against VfB Lübeck.
His early professional career also included loan spells at Unterhaching and Austrian side SCR Altach before he joined German giants Bayern Munich.
Now moving to Greifswalder FC, Adu will be looking to secure regular playing time and continue his development after gaining valuable experience at several clubs at a young age.
Greifswalder sporting director Matthias Rahn believes the teenager possesses significant potential and can make an immediate impact.
“We don't need to discuss his footballing quality at length. He possesses exceptional potential and has already demonstrated at a very young age the level at which he can perform,” Rahn said.
Rahn added that Greifswald provides Adu with an environment where he can regain focus, build confidence and continue his development through trust, clear expectations and regular opportunities.
Adu is equally excited about the move and is eager to contribute to his new team.
“Joining GFC is the best possible decision for me. The team is young, fresh, and hungry. I want to play as much as possible and help the team with goals and assists,” he said.
The 18-year-old will now hope to make his mark at Greifswalder FC as he begins the next chapter of his promising career.
