Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams has pledged his continued support for the Black Stars after bringing his international career with Ghana to an end.
The 32-year-old chose to represent Ghana in 2022 after switching his international allegiance from Spain, making 28 appearances for the West African nation and scoring two goals.
Williams made his Black Stars debut in June 2022 and quickly became an important part of Ghana’s plans for major international competitions.
He featured at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar before representing the Black Stars at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
The Athletic Bilbao captain was also named in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, adding another major tournament to his international career.
Following his decision to retire from international football, Williams expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Ghanaians for the love and support he received throughout his time with the Black Stars.
He also made it clear that his relationship with Ghana will continue despite his decision to step away from international football.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has been part of this journey and for all the love you have always shown me.
“Ghana will always be a part of me. I will continue supporting the Black Stars as one of you, wherever I am. Medaase. Always Ghana,” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Williams’ decision brings an emotional end to a four-year international journey that allowed him to reconnect with his Ghanaian roots and represent the country on some of football’s biggest stages.
Although he will no longer wear the Black Stars jersey, the forward has made it clear that his bond with Ghana remains strong.
With his international chapter now closed, Williams will turn his full attention to club football and continue his role as a key figure for Athletic Bilbao.
