Derby County head coach John Eustace has praised Ghana international Mohammed Fuseini following his impressive debut for the Championship side, describing the forward’s performance as “excellent.”
Fuseini started and played the full 90 minutes as Derby County suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion in the Championship.
The 23-year-old made his first start for the Rams after joining the club on a season-long loan from Belgian Jupiler Pro League outfit Union Saint-Gilloise during the recently concluded transfer window.
Although Derby were unable to claim any points from the encounter, Fuseini caught the eye with his direct running, pace and willingness to take on defenders, earning praise from Eustace for his overall display.
“It was an excellent debut for him. I thought he was excellent. He was really exciting out there, and that’s why we brought him to the football club. Overall, I thought his performance was very good,” Eustace said.
Despite his satisfaction with Fuseini’s debut, the Derby boss believes the Ghanaian still has room to improve, particularly when it comes to his decision-making and execution in the final third.
“Obviously, we need a little bit more consistency with his quality in the final third, with his crosses and finishing. So, I’m sure that will come,” he added.
Fuseini completed three of his four attempted dribbles and successfully completed 33 of his 37 passes, highlighting his ability to contribute both in possession and in one-on-one situations.
The Ghanaian also managed one shot on target but could not find the back of the net as Derby were condemned to a narrow defeat.
Nevertheless, Fuseini’s encouraging performance will provide a timely confidence boost as he continues to adapt to the demands of English football.
With Eustace clearly impressed by his debut, the Ghana international will now look to build on the display and establish himself as a key figure in Derby County’s campaign this season.
