VfL Wolfsburg have confirmed that Ghana defender Jonas Adjetey has been called up to the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The 2. Bundesliga club announced its list of players departing for international duty on Monday, September 21, with Adjetey included among those representing their respective countries during the international break.
Wolfsburg confirmed that the 22-year-old defender will join Ghana for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, as well as the international friendly against Morocco.
Adjetey’s inclusion comes after he was initially left out of Carlos Queiroz’s 24-man Black Stars squad announced on September 18.
His omission had been notable, particularly after the centre-back featured prominently for Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The late call-up follows Lorient defender Nathaniel Adjei’s withdrawal from the squad after suffering a hamstring injury, creating an opening in Ghana’s defensive options.
Adjetey was one of Ghana’s key defensive figures at the World Cup, featuring in all but one of the Black Stars’ matches during the tournament.
His return provides Queiroz with another defensive option ahead of Ghana’s opening 2027 AFCON qualifying fixture against Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on Thursday, September 24.
The Wolfsburg defender will also be available for Ghana’s home qualifier against The Gambia on September 29 before the Black Stars travel to Morocco for an international friendly against the Atlas Lions on October 4.
Adjetey’s call-up represents another change to Ghana’s squad ahead of the start of the AFCON qualifying campaign, following earlier additions involving Brandon Thomas-Asante, Mohammed Fuseini and Rahim Ibrahim.
