Ghana captain Jordan Ayew has expressed his determination to make a strong impact at Sheffield United after completing his move to the English Championship club.
The Blades confirmed the signing of the experienced forward on Tuesday, September 8, with Ayew agreeing to a one-year contract.
In an official statement, Sheffield United confirmed that the formalities surrounding the transfer had been completed, allowing the Ghana international to immediately join manager Chris Wilder’s squad.
“The Blades have filled the 25-man squad by completing the signing of an international striker whose last game was in the World Cup.
“The formalities have been completed on Jordan Ayew signing a one-year deal, and he links up with Chris Wilder’s squad immediately,” the club said.
Speaking after completing the move, Ayew revealed that the transfer came together quickly after receiving a call from Wilder while he was in Ghana.
The 34-year-old said he did not hesitate to accept the opportunity and is determined to contribute to what he believes is a talented Sheffield United squad.
“It happened really, really quickly because I was in Ghana and the manager called me last week. I didn’t think twice; I just took the opportunity.
“The most important thing is for me to help the team and obviously for us to have a great season. I have a lot of desire this season to make an impact and to help the team because we have a good squad and there’s a lot of positive things we can do,” Ayew said.
Ayew joins Sheffield United as a free agent following his departure from Leicester City at the end of last season.
The move gives the experienced Ghanaian another opportunity to showcase his qualities in English football, with Ayew now focused on helping the Blades achieve their ambitions this season.
