Ghana captain Jordan Ayew has left the Black Stars camp after a medical scan revealed a groin problem, dealing another blow to Carlos Queiroz’s squad ahead of the team’s upcoming fixtures.
Ayew arrived in Accra on Monday to join his international teammates as Ghana began preparations for a busy run of matches.
However, the experienced forward underwent a medical assessment on Tuesday morning after reporting an injury concern. The scan subsequently confirmed a problem that is expected to rule him out of the upcoming fixtures.
Ayew has since held discussions with head coach Carlos Queiroz and has been excused from camp to focus on his recovery.
His departure further disrupts Ghana’s preparations, with the Black Stars already dealing with several injury-related absences ahead of their upcoming assignments.
Ghana are scheduled to face Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign before taking on Morocco in an international friendly.
Queiroz has already lost several key players, with Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo and Abdul Rahman Baba among those unavailable for the international window.
Ayew’s absence means Ghana will now have to approach the upcoming matches without their captain, as Queiroz continues to work with a depleted squad.
The 34-year-old remains one of the most experienced members of the Black Stars and has been a regular figure in the national team for more than a decade.
Ghana will now hope Ayew’s injury is not serious and that the captain can make a swift return to club and international football.
