Ghana captain Jordan Ayew has revealed that his move to Sheffield United came together remarkably quickly after manager Chris Wilder contacted him while he was in Ghana.
The experienced forward said he had no hesitation about accepting the opportunity to return to English football after receiving the call from the Sheffield United boss.
“It happened really, really quick because I was in Ghana and the manager called me last week,” Ayew said.
“I didn’t think twice; I just took the opportunity, and the most important thing is for me to help the team and obviously for us to have a great season.”
Ayew has now set his sights on making an immediate impact at Bramall Lane and helping the Blades achieve their ambitions during the new campaign.
The Ghana captain believes Sheffield United have a strong squad capable of producing positive results and is eager to contribute both on and off the pitch.
“I have a lot of desire this season to make an impact and to help the team because we have a good squad and there’s a lot of positive things we can do.”
The 34-year-old brings a wealth of experience to Chris Wilder’s side, having made more than 500 competitive appearances during a career that has taken him across France and England.
Ayew has previously played for Marseille, Sochaux, Lorient, Aston Villa, Swansea City, Crystal Palace and Leicester City, giving him extensive experience of English football.
Now, with a new chapter beginning at Sheffield United, the Ghana captain will be hoping his experience, leadership and attacking quality can help the Blades enjoy a successful season.
