Germany-Ghana defender Joshua Quarshie has completed a loan move to Austrian Bundesliga side Sturm Graz from English Championship club Southampton.
The 22-year-old centre-back officially joined Sturm Graz on 27 August 2026, with his loan agreement running until 30 June 2027.
Standing at 1.96 metres, Quarshie arrives in Austria looking to gain regular first-team experience after spending the past year with Southampton.
The defender joined the English club from Hoffenheim in July 2025 for a reported €3.5 million. He had not featured for Southampton in either the Championship or EFL Cup during the opening stages of the 2026/27 campaign before completing his move to Sturm Graz.
Quarshie previously developed through Hoffenheim’s system and gained valuable experience during loan spells with Fortuna Düsseldorf and Greuther Fürth in the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons respectively.
His move to Sturm Graz represents his first experience of Austrian football and sees him remain within a German-speaking football environment as he continues his development at senior level.
Quarshie began his youth career with TuRa 88 before joining the academies of Schalke 04 and Fortuna Düsseldorf. He later moved to Rot-Weiss Essen, progressing through the club’s youth ranks before featuring for their Under-19 side.
In July 2022, he joined Hoffenheim II for a reported €120,000 and was subsequently promoted to the club’s first team in 2023.
The versatile centre-back, who can operate comfortably with either foot, is eligible to represent both Germany and Ghana and was born in Duisburg, Germany.
His loan spell at Sturm Graz is scheduled to run until 30 June 2027, when he is expected to return to Southampton. His current contract with the English club is also set to expire on the same date.
Quarshie will now look to establish himself in the Austrian Bundesliga and make the most of his latest opportunity for regular first-team football.
