Ghanaian-English right-back Kelvin Abrefa has joined Forest Green on loan from Reading, with the temporary move set to keep the 22-year-old defender at the National League club until November 30, 2026.
Abrefa arrives after beginning the 2026/27 campaign with Reading, where he has progressed through the club’s youth system and earned his opportunity with the senior squad.
The right-back joined Reading’s academy at Under-18 level in 2021 before progressing to the Under-23 setup and eventually being promoted to the first team in July 2022.
He has made one appearance in Premier League 2 so far this season, starting the match and playing 62 minutes. However, he is yet to feature for Reading in their League One, EFL Cup or EFL Trophy campaigns.
His move to Forest Green provides the National League side with additional depth at right-back and gives Abrefa an opportunity to gain valuable senior playing time.
The defender is capable of operating effectively in a defensive role on his preferred right side and will be hoping to make an immediate impression during his spell with Forest Green.
Abrefa’s senior career has so far been closely associated with Reading, making the move his first senior transfer away from the club. The loan therefore represents a fresh opportunity for the young defender to gain regular competitive football and continue his development.
Born with eligibility to represent both Ghana and England, Abrefa will now focus on establishing himself at Forest Green during his short-term spell.
The move was officially announced on September 4, 2026, with the agreement structured as a loan rather than a permanent transfer.
Abrefa’s temporary contract with Forest Green runs until November 30, 2026, when he is scheduled to return to Reading.
