Bibiani GoldStars head coach Petros Koukouras has blamed a brief lapse in concentration for his side’s 2-1 defeat to Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.
The Miners suffered their second consecutive defeat of the 2026/27 campaign after surrendering a first-half lead to the Phobians at Dun’s Park.
GoldStars made a bright start to the contest and were rewarded in the 11th minute when Kwame Poku fired the home side into the lead.
The Miners held onto their advantage until half-time but endured a difficult spell shortly after the restart, conceding twice within three minutes.
Yaw Amankwa Baafi restored parity seven minutes into the second half before Henry Kwaku Boateng completed Hearts of Oak’s comeback just three minutes later.
GoldStars pushed for an equaliser but were unable to find a way past the Hearts defence, with goalkeeper making several crucial saves to preserve the visitors’ advantage.
Koukouras admitted his team’s brief loss of concentration proved costly and expressed his disappointment with the outcome.
“Well, I want to start by saying that no one in the club is happy with the result. We worked very hard for this game. We had a very good moment. Unfortunately, we had five minutes of loss of concentration.
“We conceded two quick goals, and then we had to face a very good goalkeeper. With the multiple saves that he made, he managed to get the result for his team,” he said.
The defeat leaves GoldStars without a point from their opening two matches of the season, increasing the pressure on the Miners to respond quickly in their next league fixture.
