Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has expressed strong belief that the Black Princesses can make history by reaching the knockout stage of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup for the first time.
Simeon-Okraku made the remarks during a visit to the team’s training base in Poland ahead of their opening Group A fixture against Ecuador on September 6.
The Black Princesses have made seven previous appearances at the global tournament but have never progressed beyond the group stage.
However, the GFA President believes the current squad possesses the quality and determination needed to end that long-standing record.
“My inner faith is telling me that we have enough quality here to qualify from this group,” Simeon-Okraku told the players.
Ghana have been drawn alongside Ecuador, Korea Republic and France in Group A, but Simeon-Okraku insists the Black Princesses should approach the competition without fear or intimidation.
“These three nations, believe me, are no better than us. And I believe we have enough quality in this team to win games in this group and to make it to the second round of the competition,” he said.
The Black Princesses will begin their campaign against Ecuador before taking on Korea Republic and France in their remaining group matches.
With the GFA President backing the team to make a breakthrough, the Black Princesses will be hoping to turn that confidence into results and finally secure a historic place in the knockout stage.
