Bibiani GoldStars forward Kwame Opoku believes his side did not deserve to suffer defeat against Hearts of Oak despite their disappointing start to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign.
GoldStars surrendered an early lead to lose 2-1 to the Phobians at Dun’s Park on Sunday, leaving them without a point after their opening two matches of the season.
Opoku gave GoldStars the perfect start when he opened the scoring in the 11th minute, as the home side dominated proceedings and produced a strong performance in the first half.
However, Hearts of Oak returned from the break with renewed determination and turned the game around within a five-minute spell.
Yaw Amankwa Baafi restored parity in the 52nd minute before Henry Kwaku Boateng completed the comeback just three minutes later to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
GoldStars pushed forward in search of an equaliser during the closing stages but were unable to break down the Hearts defence, allowing the Phobians to secure their second consecutive league victory.
Opoku was disappointed with the result and insisted that GoldStars’ performance, particularly in the first half, deserved a better outcome.
“I think it didn’t go well as we planned because it’s not a game where we’re supposed to be on the losing side. We dominated the first half, and then during the second half, in only five minutes, we lost to Hearts,” he said.
The GoldStars forward, however, remained optimistic about turning their fortunes around and stressed the importance of making home advantage count in their upcoming fixtures.
“I think going forward, we’ll do everything possible to win our home matches, and then we’ll try and manage our away matches as well,” Opoku added.
GoldStars will now be hoping to put their difficult start behind them and pick up their first points of the season when they return to action in their next Ghana Premier League fixture.
