French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice are considering a move for Ghana international Alidu Seidu despite the closure of the summer transfer window in France, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively report.
Nice have identified the Stade Rennais defender as a potential priority target as they seek to strengthen their defensive options following a serious injury to Antoine Mendy.
The Senegalese defender is expected to spend several months on the sidelines after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during Nice’s clash against Le Mans last weekend.
The injury could open the door for Nice to make use of France’s ‘joker’ rule, which allows clubs to sign a player outside the regular transfer window under specific circumstances, including a serious injury to a member of the squad.
The Côte d’Azur club are now assessing the possibility of bringing in Seidu to fill the defensive gap created by Mendy’s absence.
The 26-year-old Ghanaian has found himself on the fringes of Rennes’ first-team plans, making a potential move to Nice an attractive proposition as he looks to secure more regular playing time.
However, Nice are currently waiting for their transfer budget to be approved by the club’s owners, INEOS, before making a formal approach for the Ghana international.
A loan deal with an option to buy is reportedly being considered, allowing Nice to reinforce their defence immediately while retaining the opportunity to make Seidu’s move permanent at the end of the season.
Seidu remains under contract with Rennes until June 2029, meaning Nice would have to negotiate an agreement with the Breton club before any transfer can be completed.
The versatile defender joined Rennes from Clermont Foot and has proven capable of playing both as a right-back and in central defence.
