Accra, Ghana — September 3, 2026: The FIFA Commercial Strategy and the Ghana Football Association (GFA), in partnership, hosted a one-day Women’s Premier League Commercial Strategy Workshop at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
The workshop, which began at 8:00 a.m., brought together key stakeholders with a shared objective of strengthening the commercial potential, visibility, and sustainability of women’s football in Ghana.
A major highlight of the programme was an address by Prosper Harrison Addo, General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association, who spoke extensively on the FIFA Women’s Football Strategy and the importance of developing a stronger commercial ecosystem around the women’s game.
In his presentation, Mr. Addo emphasized the need for clubs and stakeholders to adopt innovative approaches that can attract more fans, create stronger digital engagement, and unlock new commercial opportunities for the Women’s Premier League.
Key Recommendations
Mr. Addo outlined several key recommendations aimed at helping clubs and stakeholders maximize the value of women’s football:
1. Build One Ecosystem
Stakeholders must work together as one connected ecosystem. Stronger collaboration between the GFA, clubs, sponsors, media, players, fans and other partners will be essential to creating sustainable growth for the league.
2. Strategize Club Content
Clubs need to develop clear and purposeful content strategies that tell compelling stories about their teams, players and communities. Consistent and engaging content can help clubs build stronger identities and attract wider audiences.
3. Measure and Improve
The importance of using data to evaluate performance was highlighted. Clubs should measure their digital reach, fan engagement and other key indicators, using the results to continuously improve their strategies.
4. Package Digital Assets
Digital platforms present valuable commercial opportunities. Clubs should identify and package their digital assets in ways that can attract sponsors and create additional revenue streams.
5. Make Matchday Content Rich
Matchday should go beyond the 90 minutes of football. Clubs were encouraged to create rich and engaging matchday content before, during and after games to give fans a more complete experience and keep audiences connected.
6. Strengthen the Fan Relationship
At the heart of the strategy is the fan. Clubs need to understand their supporters, communicate with them consistently and create meaningful experiences that build long-term relationships and loyalty.
The workshop served as an important platform for discussions around the future of Ghana’s Women’s Premier League, particularly in the areas of commercialization, digital media, fan engagement and sustainable club development.
The collaboration between FIFA and the Ghana Football Association demonstrates the growing focus on creating a stronger foundation for women’s football and ensuring that the Women’s Premier League can become not only a competitive sporting product but also a commercially attractive and sustainable football property.
As Ghana continues to develop its women’s football landscape, initiatives such as the commercial strategy workshop provide clubs and stakeholders with the knowledge and tools needed to grow the game, strengthen its commercial value and bring more fans closer to women’s football.
