Ghanaian defender Rufai Mohammed has revealed that the opportunity to develop in the right environment was a major factor behind his decision to join Italian Serie A side Venezia FC.
The young centre-back, speaking in his first interview after completing the move, expressed his excitement about joining the club, highlighting its history, passionate supporters and commitment to developing young players.
“When Venezia called, I accepted immediately because they're a great club, with a great history and fantastic fans. This is the right environment for a young player like me to grow and improve,” Mohammed said, as quoted on Venezia’s official website.
The Ghanaian defender also pledged to give his all for the club and help Venezia achieve its objectives.
Mohammed revealed that he watched Venezia’s match against AC Milan on television before making the move and was impressed by the passion of the club’s supporters.
“I'll try to give my all to help the team achieve all its goals. I watched the match against AC Milan on TV and was really impressed by the passion and enthusiasm of the fans who so many travelled to support the team. This enthusiasm is essential for a player,” he added.
Mohammed completed his move to Venezia on transfer deadline day from Swedish side IF Elfsborg, taking the next step in his European career.
The defender began his professional journey in Ghana with Inter Allies FC before moving abroad, and his switch to Venezia represents another significant milestone in his development.
