Ghana defender Nathaniel Adjei has reportedly emerged as a potential transfer target for Sunderland as the Premier League club looks to strengthen its defensive options.
The 24-year-old centre-back currently plays for French Ligue 1 side FC Lorient, where he remains under contract until 30 June 2028.
Adjei joined Lorient permanently from Swedish club Hammarby on 1 July 2024 in a deal reportedly worth €5.7 million, following an initial loan spell with the French side that began in January 2024.
He was part of the Lorient team that won the Ligue 2 title during the 2024/25 season, earning promotion to the French top flight.
The Ghanaian defender has already featured in the opening stages of the 2026/27 Ligue 1 campaign, completing the full 90 minutes in Lorient’s only league fixture so far.
Adjei made his Ligue 1 debut last season, featuring once after Lorient returned to the top division.
Born in Teshie, Ghana, Adjei is primarily a right-sided centre-back and has developed considerable experience in European football since beginning his professional career.
His reported market value currently stands at around €1.5 million, although no specific transfer fee has been attached to Sunderland’s reported interest.
With Adjei contracted to Lorient until 2028, Sunderland would need to negotiate directly with the French club should the reported interest develop into a formal transfer approach.
For now, the Ghana international remains a Lorient player, but reported Premier League interest could present another significant opportunity in his growing European career.
