Former Ghana Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has left the decision on whether he deserves legendary status in Ghana football to the fans following his retirement from the sport.
The all-time leading scorer of the Black Stars explained that supporters are now best placed to judge the impact and achievements of his remarkable career.
🗣️ “Right now, I leave it to the fans because I am retired. They have to decide whether I made it or not. When I was playing, of course, some people didn’t like me. They didn’t even want to see me on the field. But now that I’m home, and my career is over, they understand the kind of person I was.”
Gyan enjoyed a historic career spanning over two decades, becoming Ghana’s all-time top scorer and Africa’s highest-scoring player at the FIFA World Cup with six goals.
The former Sunderland and Al Ain striker believes time has allowed fans to appreciate his contributions to Ghana football and the legacy he built during his illustrious career.
