Ghana’s U17 national team, the Black Starlets, have departed for the U17 Africa Cup of Nations with a 21-player squad and 14 officials. The team will continue final preparations ahead of the tournament’s kickoff.
This marks Ghana’s return to the competition for the first time in nearly a decade since finishing as runners-up in Gabon in 2017.
Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku saw the team off at Accra International Airport on Wednesday morning and praised their resilience after an early setback in their friendly matches.
“I’m very happy that after losing to Ivory Coast in your first friendly, you came back not just to dominate but to outscore them in the second game,” Okraku said. “That says a lot to me. Remember this: it’s not over until it’s all over. When the chips are down, that’s when we must stand together. Go out there and make Ghana proud.”
Head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum will oversee the final phase of training as the Black Starlets also aim to secure qualification for the FIFA U17 World Cup. The two-time African champions have been placed in Group D alongside Algeria, Senegal, and South Africa
