Ghana’s coach has announced a 23-man squad for the upcoming friendly against Mexico, the first step in the team’s build-up to the 2026 World Cup in the US, Canada, and USA
coach Ofei said the selection balances form and potential.
“For the game against Mexico, we’ve picked a talented and ambitious group from the local league, along with some exciting U23 players. They’re highly motivated to prove themselves to the nation and to our new head coach, Carlos Queiroz,” he explained.
The Black Stars will also play Wales on June 2 as part of their final run of warm-up matches before the tournament.
This will be Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance. They’ve landed in Group L with Panama, England, and Croatia. The campaign kicks off against Panama on June 17, followed by England on June 23, and wraps up against Croatia on June 27.
After exiting in the group stage in 2014 and 2022, Ghana’s goal is clear: get past the first round for the first time since their 2010 run.
