Asante Kotoko have mutually agreed to part ways with midfielder Prince Badu, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm, as the Porcupine Warriors continue to reshape their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The 26-year-old central midfielder joined Kotoko from Nations FC in January 2026 on a contract that was initially set to run until 2028.
However, Badu has been deemed surplus to requirements by head coach Eric Tinkler and the club’s technical team as part of the ongoing squad restructuring.
His departure comes as no surprise following reports that Kotoko were preparing to release several players as the club seeks to build a stronger squad for the new campaign.
Badu’s exit forms part of the first phase of the club’s broader rebuilding exercise following a disappointing 2025/26 season.
Kotoko have already begun strengthening their squad during the current transfer window, with the club bringing in several new faces, including Ivorian centre-back Koffi Marius Ange Bini.
Badu arrived at the club with expectations of adding physicality, discipline and stability to the midfield, but his spell with the Porcupine Warriors ultimately failed to develop as anticipated.
Following the mutual termination of his contract, Badu is now a free agent and will be free to negotiate with interested clubs as he looks to secure a new destination ahead of the 2026/27 season.
